Within two months 250 children may finally enjoy proper education. Anyone who contributes with a Face This t-shirt should be proud of themselves. Because you made this a succes. Thumbs up for yourself! During the construction of the school we keep you informed with pictures of the progress. Keep this site is in the eye. Or follow us on Facebook.

Stickers on Duduk Atas

During our first visit to Duduk Atas we brought along some stickers. These were for the notebooks. But the students found a much nicer place for them: their faces! And if your foundation called Face This, of course you can only celebrate this. Hence we bring them every year some stickers. They like them and everyone is in a no time labeled with hearts, footballers or Spider Man. And that gave an extra festive touch to a small ceremony which was held at the school.

The ceremony was intended to thank for the renovation of the school. Anyone who is involved in the school, was present. Including the village head and the builders of the new school. After the ceremony we were pleased by an insanely delicious feast consisting of rice, chicken, beef and tea. All beautifully served in bamboo leaves and delicious nuts.

Extra funding for Duduk Atas

We knew that enthusiasm is contagious. But that it really both Dutch and Indonesian parties makes them to jump onto the Face This train, we never expected. The last few days that we are here, we talked with various parties and we have extra money and resources had sponsored.

Yesterday, we approached a local network. They have offered the school to place a large water pump. This pump, worth 15,000 euros, pumps the water from nearby rivers and other sources to the water tank below the school. So far the kids always have carried water with buckets from the river to the village. But with the new pump this is no longer necessary and the kids can now deal with what really matters to them: going to school.

Besides this insanely beautiful gesture we have received from the Dutch school Jenaplan The Keg in Venray a super nice sum of money. From this we provide the students of musical instruments. Great!

Multifunctional school building

PDFPrintE-mail

The students of the Indonesian school Duduk Atas signed prints for up to three T-shirt collections. Because we now have collected enough money, we can make the dream of students and teachers come true by achieve an expansion of the school. But what does this mean exactly and what can be realized with all of the proceeds from the T-shirts?

First, the current school building will be renovated. All holes, cracks and other defects are repaired. In addition, the classrooms have glass windows and this is what the chicken wire between the window frame is replaced.

Besides the renovation of the existing school building, a completely new building will be built. It houses two new classrooms. And the doctor of the village gets a new home in here as well. Not only the children of the school here in consultation, but also the rest of the village is obviously more than welcome here.

Under the new school building is a large reservoir. This is very important to the community. So far, all residents of the village get their water miles away (especially higher). But when the school is finished, this is no longer necessary. All rainwater will be collected by the water reservoir and will be filtered so it can be used as drinking water.

Apa kabar Duduk Atas?

After sold about 500 T-shirts, a nomination for the ASN Bank World Prize and the first Benefit Collage in the Netherlands, Face This again puts foot on Indonesian soil. The foundation has raised enough money to the renovate the school of Duduk Atas, the school where the drawings of the three T-shirt collections were processed.

Today Face This visited school for the first time in 2010. By a good local coordinator, the renovation has started two weeks earlier. Hence there is already a lot of activity at the school. The fathers of the pupils and the village head were already busy with the foundation of the new building, and the mothers carry the heavy bags of cement up the hill. Luckily the students themselves were having classes. But there was also time for a quick 'chat'. The always shy kids are becoming more accustomed to our visits and want to have a chat. Especially the smaller kids are happy that they go to school and were more than happy to show that we already able to read from the school board.
